cottage in cotswolds for august

My close friend the school headmistress rang with murder in mind – “he ” has decided he would like a weekend break in a cottage in the Cotswolds rather than go overseas this year – nothing like leaving it late !! I appreciate it is near impossible but can you help? I came up with a couple of suggestions – Millstream Cottage located in Burford a quaint village often referred to as the gateway to The Cotswolds or Newbarn Cottage in Shipton-under -Wychwood a quaint cosy cottage dating back some 200 years, a real romantic hideaway.

Only this time we are not going to drag the caravan up the motorways we are going to stay in style in a hotel or guest house in Hemsley or close by, can you recommend somewhere? Well you have a wide choice from the stylish chic boutique style hotels to cottages and bed and breakfast’s – how rich are you feeling Iventured ? i acme up with a 17th century inn The George and Dragon , Kirbymoorside -only a short scenic drive from Helmsley yet away from the rally chaos.

tutankhaum exhibition & hotel weekend break

My very educated archealogist  friend Richard rang me on skype hot from his latest dig excavating ancient toilets in deepest Peru. The disjointed skype delayed words finally filtered through ” I know you are going to think me crazy but I want to go and see the Tutankhamun Exhibition before it finishes at the end of August. I believe it is at the O2 Arena, could you sort out a deal for me, with rail tickets, hotel etc. No problem I said I have a deal already in place with a choice of hotels from £ 80 per person including a night in a hotel and tickets for the exhibition, just choose a  hotel and I will sort it out – Tutankhamun Exhibition Hotel Package.

bed & breakfast in york for york university open day

My ex university pal Anne called looking for advice. would you believe it but now Kate is looking at York as a possible for Uni and the open day is early July. Can you suggest a nice handy B & B close to the uni with parking, where we can stay the night before.

I came up with The Limes and Ashbourne House, both quality inspected and close to the York University campus in Fulford

dirty weekend in edinburgh for millennium virgin

My mate SJ has not had a man since the start of the millennium according to her! So imagine my surprise when she called me today to arrange a dirty weekend in Edinburgh. I have finally found a chap I want to do it with  she enthused and he works and lives in Scotland. Convenient I said when you live in Leeds but hey !  I want a really swish hotel centrally located with funky themed rooms in case we want to get kinky – too much information – handcuffs and whips whirling through my brain. I sorted her out with The Scotsman – one of the nicest central hotels I know and gave her the address of the nearest adult gifts shop and wished her well. Do you have advice for SJ to make her dirty weekend go with a bang? Do post back but keep it clean.!!

overnight stansted airport stopover before flight to the sun

My good friend Nikki rang very excited we are all going over to see my dad in Spain for a couple of weeks and you better sit down…. because I am actually going to fly!!

Now what you need to know is that Nikki has a real serious phobia of flying – not unusual in itself until you learn that Nikki is an ex Air Hostess who clocked up 100’s of thousands of miles around the world during her flying career.

Anyway …she said, I am looking for a hotel to stay over the night before we fly as it is an early morning flight from Stansted and we don’t want to be travelling through the night with the little one. Can you sort me out an Airport Stopover Hotel, as near to the airport as possible. I fixed her up with the SAS Radissson right on the terminal perfect for the family, so at least that is one part of the angst sorted – just the flight to man now!!

Do you have any friends with wierd phobias I would like to know about the most unusual.

george michael concert – hotel weekend break

My ex work colleague Lorraine lit up my phone this morning before I had even finished my muesli…I have got to see him, I have still got a crush on him after all this time and despite his “history”. I take it you mean George I ventured – with flash back images of her boogieing round the handbags to ” wake me up before you go go”. Absolutely I know he will never be mine but I can still dream. He “George Michael”  has announced his final 2 concerts at Earls Court in August. Now when Lorraine had this crush she was a mere child herself, now almost a gran I did have to wonder about the enduring power of the teenage crush. I presume there will be a gang of you and you will want rail tickets and an overnight in a hotel as well I asked, cereal spoon poised to take down all the details. Have you had a ridiculous teenage crush you still harbour – do let let me know I might even tell you about mine … a clue it involved lots of tartan !

no frills budget London hotel break for posh pal

My posh and well connected mate Rupert rang, I need a really nice hotel on the weekend of the 21st June, we have been invited to Sir Richard’s party at an exclusive venue in Kensington and “not going” is not an option. Ah well says I then in that case money will be no object. The 5* Royal Garden is on High St Kensington, within crawling distance of the venue and very nice, I warmed to the task I will get you a park view and you can look down on The Royal’s – not for the first time I am sure I teased gently!  I also have a great deal on first class rail so you can travel in style too or are you taking the Bentley .Well my budget is around £120 tops he says plus cheap rail tickets if you can get them. OK says I .. understandably now a lot less enthused, then how about The Copthorne Tara or Kensington Close a bit further to crawl and not as glam but ideal for the purpose and I will do the special National Express East Coast restricted ticket deal for £46 each. Perfect he said lets go for it. Do you have go to these type of glam events and if so do you push the boat out or like Rupert save the pennies…do let me know and reply back.

fathers day gift – weekends activity break

Jules rang – now rather than the usual cigars and whisky i want to do something different for dad for Fathers Day! He is into guns and the paranormal – so either some kind of haunted thing or clay pigeon shooting would be good. I thought the three of us would make a break of it – Dad, ( obviously) my bro and me, ideally any of the weekends in July / August. Well says I Murder, Mystery weekends are still really popular and “Good Fun” or I can do Clay Pigeon Activity Breaks – in a range of places. Why not do the Edinburgh/ Perthshire Activity Break and then you can combine it with some time in Edinburgh – perfect said Jules see what you can do. If you have some great ideas for something different for Fathers Day then reply back I would love to hear them
